Home of perfectly brewed beer and the most delicious french fries, waffles, and chocolate!
Bruges – “It’s a fairytale town, isn’t it?” YES it is!
We had originally planned to celebrate Jack’s birthday in Paris, but we made a last minute decision to take a train to Bruges instead and we are so glad we did! What a dreamy little place with its cobblestone streets, gorgeous canals, beautiful main square, and horse and carriage rides. On Jack’s birthday, we enjoyed a traditional Belgian waffle, went on a canal ride, stopped for a few beers at the oldest brewery in town (Huisbrouwerij De Halve Maan), wandered to the kissing bridge, found another brewery that made a beer called “Blonden Os” (seemed too fitting to NOT have one…or two), saw the Belfry, Church of Our Lady, and Basilica of the Holy Blood among others, and ended the day with traditional Flemish Stew. Not to mention, the night before we ate possibly the best Thai food we have ever had. Not a bad way to spend a birthday!

After Bruges, we headed to Brussels where we drank more strong beers and ate several portions of amazing french fries, waffles covered in whipped cream, and deliciously rich chocolate (obviously). We zipped around the city on Lime scooters to see all the sights including the Musée Art & Historie, Autoworld, Parc du Cinquatenaire, Parc de Bruxelles, Manneken Pis, St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral, and the grandest of them all, The Grand Place. We were lucky enough to be in town for The Flower Carpet which is an event that happens at The Grand Place every two years where a magnificent display of flowers, grass, and bark are assembled on the ground of the square to illustrate a theme; this years theme was Saint Michael archangel and the Belgian lion. Absolutely stunning!
We also visited the Delirium Village which takes up an entire alley with its different stores including the Monasterium, Taphouse, Tequila, Cafe, and Garden. We ate Moroccan food for the first time which was delicious and Jack made a new friend at a cafe we stopped at for breakfast.
